The idea

Purgi at the centre of a multilingual bridge

The dictionary is deliberately multilingual: Purgi, English, Hindi and Urdu are brought together within one digital resource. An English search facility lets users begin with a widely used language and reach Purgi, Hindi and Urdu meanings.

The approach

Fieldwork, not only desk work

The project grew from approximately four years of sustained engagement with Purgi. Dr. Abraham learned Purgi as a non-native speaker, travelled nearly 500 km and visited more than 60 villages to collect vocabulary and understand local usage.

A language in transition

From accessible documentation to a living resource

The first edition uses Latin-script representation as an accessibility bridge. The proposed next phase will add Purgi script alongside Latin transliteration, strengthen community verification and expand the resource.
